Hi all
Older engines run on 2* 3*, but since the demise of LRP what do we use ?
Is it alright to run older engines on unleaded or will it ruin the valves ?
It has been suggested to me that you can put a nylon bag of lead shot into the tank to add lead to unleaded, will this work do you think as I have a supply of lead flashing off cuts that I could use.
hey up rich
as said on the veg forum its ok to use lead free
plus you cant make your own leaded petrol its a bit more complex than putting lead shot into your petrol.its actualy a mix of lead and sodium plus other nasties also known as antiknock compound or T.E.L or T.M.L
Cheers Shaun I posted on the other on the off chance there's always some one around with an idea ! I asked B&S but they have not replied to me yet, but I found an old lawnmowers collectors site and they reckon on single cylinder engines it probably don't matter.
Back up on Saturday I believe.
Took my Flymo DM out yesterday for the first time. Worked really well where I had already rough dug, but only went down 1 1/2" - 2" on the hard uncultivated land. I assume thats about right for a first pass with a 3hp engine ? any idea?
Not used to small rotavators, last time I used a rotavator it was at college when I was doing the rhs course and it must have been 20-30 hp at least, massive thing it was dead easy to use though.

yes thats it mate,a bit at a time.if you roughly loosen up with a fork or spade, you dont need to fully dig it just loosen it,and take it bit by bit,
the more you use it the easier the soil will be to cultivate next time,
if you prepair some land now for sowing,go ahead and do it then leave it for 2-3 weeks before you sow, this will encourage weeds to germinate, then on the day you plan to sow give it a little go over not too deep just a couple of inches to destroy the weeds.then sow your seeds.this way you will have a big impact on weeds later on

I know what your saying the small ones are quite hard to handle on land that hasnt been cultivated but over time it gets easier.
the only problem with the big yokes are you cant move them around easy they come into there own if you have lots of room though
frankie sent me this document if you want a copy i will get you one done (sure frankie wont mind m passing it on)just P.M your addy.its a howard booklet but it goes for all cultivators/rotavators
